Our institute successfully provides development of national healthcare and higher medical personnel, development and improvement of qualifications of doctors for 75 years. The institute aims to increase awareness of medical education of doctors, their obtaining of new achievements of fundamental medicine and obtaining application of modern methods of diagnostics in clinical practice. These are integral attributes of developing modern medicine of the XXI century. Professor V.A.Tarnogradskiy, M.M.Efendiyev and B.A.Agayev were the first rectors of the institute. Academician Aziz Aliyev played great role for revival of our institute. The institute named after him since 1962 year according to resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers based on request of institute’s staff. Talented and highly qualified medical personnel, including M.Mammadov, M.X. Yagubov, S.M. Gusman, I.I.Lukov, S.G.Stain, N.M. Israfilova, P.P. Popov, S.İ.Velikhan, etc. was established in Azerbaijan during these years. Role of Academician Zarifa Aliyeva and Academician M.J.Cavadzadeh, leading the institute for more than 30 years, in improvement of the institute is great. Under their leadership and with the support of national leader Heydar Aliyev our institute embarked to the new development stage. Strong pedagogical and scientific staff is formed during this period and as well as in all spheres in Azerbaijan, major development is observed in health care owing to great care of President of the Republic. Hundreds of new medical institutions were established and old ones were reconstructed. Medical institutions are provided with modern equipment corresponding to international standards. So, development and improvement of medical personnel becomes an important task and comes into higher level.
Currently Azerbaijan State Advanced Training Institute for Doctors named after A. Aliyev (ASATID) is a modern medical, educational, therapeutic and methodic center of healthcare sphere with academicians, professors, docents, assistants working here. Every year doctors of our Republic improve their knowledge and qualifications; uphold new doctoral theses, conduct scientific researches that meet requirements priorities of modern and national public health. Scientific schools of urologists, nephrologists, ophthalmologists, oncologists, neurologists, surgeons, gynecologists are formed within our center. Our activity aimed establishment of qualified medical education in our Republic for preparation and development highly qualified medical personnel for modern medical and social assistance to the population. As for us the future development of our institute depends on unity of scientific, educational, treatment processes, integration to global medical and scientific sphere and constructive cooperation.
