The Azerbaijan State Advanced Training Institute for Doctors named after A. Aliyev (ASATID) conducts the following forms of post graduate education and trainings: - general and thematic improvement trainings on different specializations; retraining for specialization; - doctorate; - residency.
Doctors from the following health care facilities attend the improvement courses conducted by ASATID: - health care facilities under supervision of the Ministry of Health; private health care facilities; - health care facilities under supervision of medical institutions; - citizens of foreign countries with order and permission of the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan Republic. The Educative Branch of the Institute acts according to the annual schedule and curriculum approved by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The annual schedule attracts the date, duration, acceptance plan and other information about general and thematic improvement courses to be conducted by different departments of ASATID. Education at the institute is being conducted in visual and distant forms. Distant trainings are applied since 2009 and currently 5 departments of the Institute conduct such form of education nearly in all regions of Azerbaijan. The number of department conducting distant trainings may increase in future. Besides trainings noticed on schedule of trainings, institute conducts additional trainings, also mobile and mobile-distant courses with order of different health care facilities and the Ministry of Health. The education branch of the institute implements completing of doctors’ staff for specialization courses. Beginning from 2013 year accepting of attendants to post graduate courses according to online application developed by the Ministry of Health. Using of such system make entrance to courses easier and let to complete entrance procedure faster. Beginning from 2013-2014 education year duration of specialization courses have been shortened according to international standards and became 2-4 weeks and number of doctors attending courses increased for 1.7 times. As the result of it delays in the issue of the courses will be eliminated and will allow timely implementation of the process, also conducting of courses on actual topics for specialists will be possible. Education Branch implements regular control over attendance of post graduate students at courses and quality of education together with dean’s office and makes different proposals for improvement of this activity. Such works as supplying of department with modern equipment (computers, multimedia projectors) and conducting of lessons by means of electronic presentations, using of test system on examination of basic knowledge of graduators and final exams are directed towards improvement of quality of education process during recent years. Another important effort for improvement of education quality is signing of cooperation agreement between our institute and Russian Post Graduate Medical Academy with initiative of the Ministry of Health of the Azerbaijan Republic. According to this agreement leading specialists of Russian Post Graduate Medical Academy will conduct improvement courses in Baku for local doctors on most important specializations and topics. More than 600 doctors attended such courses till now and successfully apply knowledge and skills which they have got at these courses. Technical capabilities of our institute let to conduct such courses in distant form since November, 2013. The another direction of cooperation between two institutions is sending of young specialists of ASATID to Moscow for attending trainings on actual topics. The another importance of these courses is online broadcasting both in Moscow and Baku, and doctors from Baku and Moscow can listen these courses. Since 2013 education year taking into consideration needs on training of specialists on mini invasive endoscopic surgery, the institute conducts 2 weeks "Laparoscopic surgery training" courses for surgeons, oncologists, urologists, gynaecologists. All necessary equipment for courses has been purchased, doctors attending courses get theoretical knowledge and practical skills working with simulators and waxworks. Doctors successfully graduating the course are given certificates.

Our institute successfully provides development of national healthcare and higher medical personnel, development and improvement of qualifications of doctors for 80 years. The institute aims to increase awareness of medical education of doctors, their obtaining of new achievements of fundamental medicine and obtaining application of modern methods of diagnostics in clinical practice. These are integral attributes of developing modern medicine of the XXI century. Professor V.A.Tarnogradskiy, M.M.Efendiyev and B.A.Agayev were the first rectors of the institute. Academician Aziz Aliyev played great role for revival of our institute. The institute named after him since 1962 year according to resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers based on request of institute’s staff. Talented and highly qualified medical personnel, including M.Mammadov, M.X. Yagubov, S.M. Gusman, I.I.Lukov, S.G.Stain, N.M. Israfilova, P.P. Popov, S.İ.Velikhan, etc. was established in Azerbaijan during these years.
